No more Couhig

I hadn't listened Rob Couhig's radio show since sometime before Christmas, but I wanted to test something that I said at Oyster's:
They (whoever makes the editorial decisions) must know that weekday and Sunday editorials are far more likely to get discussed on talk radio and get noticed in other ways. I get the impression that they occasionally find it impossible to ignore the obligation to say something, but they're afraid to say it too loudly.

I wanted to see if Rob and BO would discuss the Picayune's timid criticism of the mayor. Instead, I heard Sean Hannity. I saw that Couhig was no longer mentioned on the station's website but was too busy getting ready for work to investigate. Just found it explained at New Orleans City Business:
'Rob and Bo' show signs off on 99.5FM

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans station 99.5FM has apparently canceled two local talk shows, including the "Rob and Bo Show" starring former mayoral candidate Rob Couhig and longtime radio personality Bo Walker.

Former insurance Commissioner Jim Brown also has been off the air since Wednesday, according to the station’s Web site, which still lists Brown as a host but no longer lists Couhig and Walker.
...
An advertisement on the “job opportunities” section of the site lists an opening for an on-air personality to fill the morning time slot, which is rerunning the syndicated Sean Hannity show.

Glad that I'm too busy to feel the need to post regularly; I'd only have Jarvis DeBerry to blog about on nothing else to post about days.

Comments:
Damn, I really thought that Garey and Anthony were going to be gone first - they SUCK. In order to not appear as if the whole station is falling apart they will probably prolong their departure until summer. Which then pushes back the conversion to classic rock until next year.

They Suck

I think Andrea will be off the air in the next couple of weeks, but they will do it by saying it is some medical procedure.

Couhig's gone. What a shame. Maybe he has a 100 or so more days to help Nagin completely demolish New Orleans. I hear Virginia's available, too!

You're right this has all of the portents of either a sale or an impending format change.

If this is true, I'm going to miss Andrea's special brand of belligerent ignorance.

"belligerent ignorance" - thank you, I've been trying to come up with a name for that type of BAT SHIAT CRAZY.

This is very upsetting! I've been listening to 99.5 daily since the format change and have enjoyed having two New Orleans-based conservative talk radio stations.

I just stated started listening to Rob and Bo over the past couple of weeks on my morning drive to the gym. I think they were great together since they were both heavily into politics.

Jim Brown has by far been my favorite radio show and hope that he comes back to the station and it continues its current format.

I think it's a shame that when New Orleans finally gets someone who is not afraid to critisize the city's leaders, the "new 99.5 fm" decides to take them off the air. The way that Bo and Rob worked together was interesting. On the one hand you had a long time radio personality to keep the show flowing, even if he couldn't keep up with Rob on an intellectual basis. And on the other hand you had someone with tremendous knowledge of how government works both inside the offices and "outside" the offices. This show gave great insight as to what really goes on in New Orleans city government-- They will be sorely missed.

"On the one hand you had a long time radio personality to keep the show flowing, even if he couldn't keep up with Rob on an intellectual basis."

WHAT?

If you can't keep up with Rob on an intellectual basis then you also can't tie your shoes without drooling. That guy is a MORON. I'm not talking about the fact that my opinions differ from his, I'm talking about the fact that he will talk about things he has no qualifications talking about - taxes, subprime mortgages, economics, etc. He is just plain wrong on almost every topic he chooses to discuss.

Anonymous, I'm inclined to agree with Spawn of John. There were times when I could only say the same thing about Couhig that I say about Jarvis DeBerry -- he's either lazy or dishonest. A radio talk show can't be expected to have background knowledge of every subject that gets introduced on his show, but if he plans to introduce a topic, he should determine the basic facts. Typical example, I can't remember when the distorted story about San Francisco and bottled water was in the news, but he brought up the story of San Francisco outlawing bottled water to make liberals look stupid. Had he done a two minute google news search before introducing a topic on his own show, he would have seen that the ordinance only involved outlawing the hundreds of thousands of dollars (might of been a couple of mil.) a year that city agencies spent on bottled water -- something he would have approved of. It failed as strictly a cost cutting measure the year before, so they re-introduced it as an environmental measure. Minor, but typical.

Still, I could have overlooked that as mostly idealogical differences if he hadn't been such a big disappointment when it came to criticizing city leaders. He was always much more willing to criticize Blakely than Nagin. He asked all the city council candidates that he interviewed what they thought about Blakely, not Nagin. He would criticize Nagin for his tendency to stick his foot in his mouth, but there's already plenty of that. We need, and needed, somebody to call him on his blatant lies.

In some ways, I'd like to see him get his show back. But if he wants to do a public service, less Blakely more Nagin. Less foot going into mouth than lies coming out of mouth.

Spawnofjohn had this to say:

"If you can't keep up with Rob on an intellectual basis then you also can't tie your shoes without drooling. That guy is a MORON. I'm not talking about the fact that my opinions differ from his, I'm talking about the fact that he will talk about things he has no qualifications talking about - taxes, subprime mortgages, economics, etc. He is just plain wrong on almost every topic he chooses to discuss."

That's easy to say, but most people who listened to his show were at least capable of understanding that Couhig is well-educated and well read -- and smart. He may be wrong, but a moron? That kind of comment says more about spawnofjohn's lack of intellectual capacity (I suspect he's very young) than it does about Couhig.

A simple Google search shows Couhig graduated with a degree in International Economics from Georgetown University's Foreign Service School (the most prestigious foreign service school in the U.S.)

He graduated from Tulane Law School, back when that meant something. And he was clearly a successful attorney, because they don't let the morons argue cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Get a grip. You may disagree, but that hardly makes him a moron.
